Often in confronting situations, whether socially or in a working environment, we tend to defer to blaming someone or something, rather than taking ownership of a situation we know we were responsible for.
It is the easiest and quickest way around dealing with the awkwardness that we feel when taking accountability for our actions.
I find it very interesting to note that this begins at a very early age, at the same time our ego begins to develop, and follows us to our grave.
You can feel the buildup of emotions as well as physical reactions when we take a defensive stance, and it magnifies when we know we are at fault yet are loath to own up to whatever it may be that has placed us in this situation.
If we quickly realised how far these events can roll out and how much impact they have on not only ourselves, but the many other people that become embroiled, we would never allow the situation to get to that level.
Yet we do…every day.
Taking responsibility for ourselves and for our actions is no easy task to begin with but gets so much easier with continued practice.
Aside from owning our mistakes, we can begin with taking responsibility for our health, our relationships and our finances.
It takes one small step and once you are headed in the right direction, you just keep going.
It starts with you…
