Regaining Your Feet

One of the questions I am asked through my coaching business is, ” How can I ever recover from heartbreak?”

I’m sure there would not be too many of us who haven’t suffered the traumatic experience of having our heart broken, be that through the ending of a relationship or the passing of a loved one. Not only do we experience acute emotional pain, but we are impacted physically, mentally and even on a spiritual basis when we start to question our established beliefs.

The old adage that time heals is very true, but in the moment, we are feeling destroyed and cannot bear the thought of having to wait for some future moment to begin to feel whole again.

The common trait that occurs once we are impacted by this pain, is to cast our mind back to the thoughts of times shared and the wonderful experiences we created together, but ultimately the reality bites when we realise the finality of those times. We understand that we’ll never have those amazing experiences again, and that is extremely painful.

I believe the path through these times is initially, the path of acceptance. Accepting that those beautiful memories will always be available to us, but that at this present time that phase of our life has closed, and we move forward to whatever the next phase holds.

Acceptance allows us closure, and present moment awareness ensures we don’t continually live in a mindset of past thought. By focusing on our life at this very moment, and continuing to do so, we don’t allow room for an out-of-control mind to continually drag us back to our painful past.

Whilst there are no magical cures to appease emotional pain and hardship, practicing present moment living will assist you in regaining your feet.
